Unnati Foundation is a community-centred development organisation working across Sikkim and the North-east region of India to strengthen rural livelihoods through enterprise-led, climate-resilient, and institution-focused interventions.
We operate at the intersection of agriculture, livelihoods, and grassroots institutions, supporting farmer groups, cooperatives, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to transition from subsistence activity to financially viable, market-linked enterprises. Our work is rooted in the belief that sustainable development must be economically sound, ecologically responsible, and locally owned.
Unnati Foundation brings together field experience, technical expertise, and policy alignment. We specialise in strategic consultancy, enterprise design, and Detailed Project Report (DPR) development for rural development, agri-based and allied initiatives, particularly under the Unnati Scheme and allied Government of India programmes. Rather than focusing on short-term implementation alone, we prioritise evidence-based planning, feasibility analysis, and long-term sustainability, enabling communities to invest in enterprises with strong commercial and institutional potential.
Unnati Foundation also promotes regenerative and climate-smart agricultural models, with a focus on high-value crops, diversified farming systems, and nature-positive practices suited to fragile mountain ecosystems. From mushroom value chains and integrated farming models to food processing and livestock-based enterprises, our interventions are designed to balance income generation with ecological resilience.
At its core, Unnati Foundation is driven by collaboration—with farmers, local leaders, technical experts, government bodies and partners. We measure success not only in outputs delivered, but in institutions strengthened, livelihoods stabilised, and systems created that can sustain and scale impact independently.

Unnati Foundation was not born out of a boardroom plan. It was born in the fields—amid rows of Yacon crops, under the sun-kissed skies of Sikkim, where our founding members first began their journey in crop management. What started as a mission to improve agricultural productivity soon transformed into something much larger: a movement to uplift entire communities.

We stand beside aspiring entrepreneurs, community leaders, and grassroots innovators, offering them the tools, knowledge, and mentorship they need to build ventures that matter.
Since our inception, Unnati Foundation has helped individuals and groups turn their ideas into tangible enterprises. These include small-scale manufacturers, rural service providers, agricultural innovators, craft-based entrepreneurs, and youth-led ventures. Many of these businesses have not only generated livelihoods but have become sources of local pride and inspiration.
Our initiatives have helped reduce rural-to-urban migration, encouraged local employment, promoted women’s entrepreneurship, and fostered social leadership in underserved communities.
While our roots lie in agriculture, our vision has grown.
